Branko Ivanovski Gapo is one of the most significant figures on the scene of contemporary Macedonian culture. First of all, a film director, but also a television and theater director, director of numerous radio dramas…
Gapo was a magician, a dreamer, a researcher, and therefore the Macedonian culture was lucky to embrace in its bosom an author who continuously, without a trace, belonged to the world of art (first of all, to the world of moving images), a creator who behaved knowing that to fantasize means to research, to research means to create, and to create means to EXIST! In other words, Gapo’s restless spirit fantasized, explored, and created, and thus allowed him to EXIST.
In all his creative oeuvre we discover the explosion of anxiety, of emotions, of inspiration, things that did not allow Gapo to sail (like some of his colleagues) into the calm waters of creative conformism and bow to the conventional and commercial form. On the contrary – his hard work, his enthusiasm, his talent spread to infinity, enabled him to be one of the most prolific Macedonian composers.
