1909

The first film screenings in Veles were held in the tavern of Trajko Ivanov which continued for another couple of years. They were organized by a man from Veles, called Arso Petrov Kartov, with a projector purchased in Germany. In Bitola, Tasko and Kosta Chomu (in the picture) rented the Bitola Theater Hall and started film screenings there. Several travelling theaters visited Skopje (records available) and gave their screening shows in the theater building. Their repertoire was advertised in the daily press. One of these travelling cinemas visited Debar, and the people of Debar could see moving pictures for the first time.
