The Department of Public Activities carries out activities in the area of ​​presenting, promoting and showing the films owned by the Cinematheque – through the release of films, film and other materials, as well as through the organization of various retrospective shows, manifestations and exhibitions – both in the country and abroad.

Photo library

Film photos, posters and other propaganda material stored in the photo library are an integral part of film production. It collected and processed over 45,000 photographs, 607 posters, over 34,000 samples of propaganda material (catalogs, programs, posters, etc.), 4,800 photo negatives, 1,270 slides, 390 costume sketches, 155 set sketches and 380 foils. That’s over 80,600 units – just from the national production. Also, the photo collection at the Cinematheque of Macedonia has a large number of posters and propaganda material from foreign productions.

Written documentation

The written documentation department is responsible for collecting, protecting and processing the written materials and accompanying documentation in the field of film: synopses, scripts, recording books, dialogue lists and other documents (author’s contracts, co-production contracts, personal documents of film authors, etc.). So far, this department has collected and processed more than 400,000 units of various documents and materials, placed in archive boxes about 200 meters away.

Publishing activity

Other activities of the Cinematheque include the publication and printing of books in the field of film history and theory. So far, the Cinematheque has released 26 titles. The Cinematheque also publishes the periodical magazine KINOPIS on the history, theory and culture of film and other arts, which is published twice a year. In addition, from the field of electronic publishing, in 2000 the Cinematheque also released the multimedia CD-ROM “The Century of Film in Macedonia”.

Movie Theater

In 2006, the Cinematheque celebrated its 30th anniversary in the new premises of the “Drugarche” library building with a cinema hall, video library and film bookshop, permanent museum exhibit, exhibition gallery, library, photo library… After the complete renovation and equipping with 35mm. movie projectors and a surround sound system, and 136 seats, on October 10, 2006, the regular movie program begins in the movie theater. Several cycles are held, including: “Macedonian film”, “Author’s film”, “Chaplin-identity of the film”, “Visconti”, “East-West”, “Week of the French film”, etc. In the following years, a large number of cycles of famous authors, directors and directors of photography are held, then the presentation of a large number of national cinemas, as well as festivals, premieres and promotions. Guests at the Cinematheque, among others, were: Jiri Menzl, Natalija Bondarchuk, Manolo De Oliveira, Thierry Arbogas, Lordan Zafranović, Zhelimir Žilnik and others. In 2015, the cinema hall was renovated, i.e. new digital projection equipment, DCP projector, media, Blu-ray and DVD player were installed, and a new projection screen was also installed.
